I’m famous, not really

UPDATE: Added links to the Independent article “The Revolution Will Be Blogged.”

If you haven’t heard the amazing new rap song “It’s Carrboro,” you have been missing out. now you can watch It’s Carrboro: the video! I am in it but you wouldn’t notice. And really it does just fine without my obvious presence 😉 . But if you want to catch me, freeze the video at 2:10 (I am on the left) and at 2:26 (in the back).

Hey, is anyone else using LinkedIn? It’s basically social networking for professional contacts. I’ve been hearing about it for a few years, but I just recently decided that it might actually be helpful to join.

If you’re on there look me up and say hi.

Diplomacy is for pussies

Dick Cheney recently visited Russia and complained that they are using their own oil reserves to blackmail the world. In other words, he doesn’t like that they are energy independent and doing the same thing the US does – whatever the hell they want. He also complained that they weren’t doing enough to support democracy. The media called his remarks the beginning of a new cold war.

democracy: 1, diplomacy 0 ? Not exactly…

No doubt democratic reforms would be a good thing for Russia, but Cheney showed that he wouldn’t know democracy if it shot him in the face. On his next stop, Cheney visited oil-rich Kazakhstan and expressed his “admiration for all that’s been accomplished here” on human rights.

What is it has been accomplished? Read on…

Colbert roasts Bush… crispy

In chatting with a lot of lefty politicos last night I was shocked to find that every last adult in the country has not heard about Stepehn Colbert’s performance at the White House Correspondents Association’s fancy annual dinner. Therefore it is my duty as a lover of democracy and free speech to spread the word!

UPDATE 5/8/06: C-SPAN made YouTube.com take the video down, but it’s now available (in better resolution) at Google Video.

There are three parts. You can watch them at YouTube (one, two, three), or watch the first two bits below:

Practicing Judyism

The other day I happened across a Judy Tenuta bit on the radio and I remembered how much I enjoyed her humor when I was in college. My friend Vicky and I even saw her perform in Raleigh sometime in the early-90’s.

So I decided to look her up and found that she’s not only alive, but kicking. And that she’s doing a show at the Carolina Theatre this weekend! I bought myself tickets for my 35th birthday.

I was also happy to discover that Judy now has a blog…

Election Time, Orange County!

Once again, it’s that time of year when my friends start asking who to vote for. It’s sometimes hard to understand local elections, especially in non-partisan races and primaries, like this Tuesday’s main event. Here are my sugegstions for voters in Orange County, NC:

Anyone who is registered as a Democrat or Unaffiliated can vote in the Democratic Party primary. For congress you have the option to cast a protest vote against David Price by supporting Kent Kanoy who has run an idealistic and Quixotic campaign. In the Orange County Commissioners race, I strongly support Mike Nelson, former Carrboro Mayor and professional environmental lobbyist, Fred Battle, head of the local NAACP and a veteran municipal employee, and Barry Jacobs, a talented sports writer and incumbent Commissioner.

This year the race for two Superior Court judicial seats is blessed with several qualified candidates. Voters will pick two, and the top four will advance to the November election. I am enthusiastically supporting Adam Stein, who has been a national civil rights pioneer and a local progressive political stalwart. For the second seat, I recommend either Chuck Anderson, who has 10 years of experience as a district court judge, or Allen Baddour, a promising new face who I expect will have a lengthy and distinguished judicial career regardless of this year’s election.

I could go on about how principled and qualified each of these candidates are, but if you would like more information about these and other races please visit OrangePolitics.org and the OP Election Guide.

No matter who it’s for, please vote Tuesday May 2nd!

What is he thinking?

Can you believe this guy? Reuters: Kerry “thinking hard” about 2008 run for president.

Think again, fool! Half of America thinks you’re a loser and the other half falls asleep whenever you open your mouth.

Hmm… then again… a new Kerry nomination could be just the nail in the party’s coffin I’ve been waiting for. This could open the door for massive voter interest in viable third parties! Run, John, run!
