“Edwards, Edwards stop the war… Or you’ll lose 2004!”
I’ll try to get my photos up here soon.
Month: March 2003
Finally
Carol Moseley Braun got a website. Yay!
“We are the Patriots”
Speech at California Democratic Party Convention –
Sacramento, CA – March 16, 2003Women and people of color deeply cherish America’s promise of inclusion and freedom and opportunity. We have had to fight and even die for equality and justice. That is why a woman’s right to reproductive freedom, civil rights and equal pay for equal work matter so much to us.
That is why the values that matter to every American call us to contribute to this country in the best way we can.
We are patriots because we have had to struggle for citizenship, and we value it as a dear and rare and precious gift of this country.
How you should feel: shock and awe?
Patrick Farley of the always amazing e-sheep, presents Our Leader Speaks on the moral quagmire of Gulf War II.
Where’s the leadership?
Sad that these two have either lost or stepped down from their government positions due to having principles which are so badly needed right now.
Former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney hit the nail on the head again in her speech “Something is terribly wrong in this country.”
And this from Robin Cook, who resigned the Labour Party in protest of Tony Blair’s mindless obedience to American imperialism:
“We cannot base our military strategy on the assumption
that Saddam is weak and at the same time justify pre-emptive action on the claim that he is a threat.”
Today, I Weep for My Country
Robert Byrd wasn’t the first first to say it, and he surely won’t be the last either. Visit AlterNet’s War on Iraq page for lots of insights, news, and information that is too thoughtful and too factual to be found in the mainstream media.
Here’s a good essay I just stumbled across: George W. is a Gangsta.
“You Can No More Win a War Than You Can Win an Earthquake.”
My dad offers this link about Jeanette Rankin, first woman in Congress, war resister.
John Edwards makes me barf
“Presidential candidate John Edwards proposed a $2,500 tax credit for parents who take time off from work to care for a newborn.” And for you single and/or low-income parents who can’t afford to not work: up yours! Be glad you don’t live in Baghdad.
I wanted to like him, at least a little bit. Too bad.
Where will you be when the shit hits the fan?
I might have to head to the Orange County Social Club for some beer and sympathy, but next stop: the streets! The N.C. Peace Hub site and United for Peace list contingency plans for protests after the bombing starts. Actually, the bombing never stopped since 1991, so I guess this what we do when the “President” puts on his cowboy hat and starts screaming like Slim Pickens at the end of Dr. Strangelove.
Brother, can you spare some compassion?
I’ve set up a mini-site with resources on the local panhandling issue. If you are interested, please take the time to contact the Town Council, write a letter to the editor, endorse our memo or come to the Council meeting on Monday, March 24th 7pm at Town Hall.
