Don’t get me wrong, I oppose the death penalty under any circumstances. But Terry Nichols was convicted – in a real American court, not in Guantanamo Bay – of participating in the undisputably terrorist Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 that killed 160 people (and one fetus, Republicans want you to know). Nichols gets a nice, fair trial, and a peaceful “you will be a ward of the state for the rest of your life and die in jail” life sentence. Compare this to the treatment of suspected Al Qaeda supporters, and you have to think there is maybe just a tad of racial and ideological bias at work in our government.
