Nonprofit Blog Exchange

Some folks are proposing a Nonprofit Blog Exchange where people working in or with nonprofits will trade blogs for a day (or something).

Everyone in the nonprofit sector is unique. Some are from different countries or cultures. Some have different areas of expertise.

Each organization is different. They have different missions. They have different strengths and weaknesses.

By pairing up nonprofit bloggers with different backgrounds, they will be able to help each other out.

It sounds kind of interesting, but I think they need to do a better job articulating the value of this exercise to organizations’ missions and causes.

  1. Thanks for mentioning the Nonprofit Blog Exchange, Ruby! As for the value of this experiment – it’s partly just to see what happens.

And it’s partly to encourage cross-awareness among those who work for or support mission-based organizations. Suppose a blogger from a disaster relief organization is randomly assigned to be a guest blogger for a nonprofit that focuses on historic preservation. Perhaps she could talk about her experiences in Thailand after the tsunami, and reflect on what it meant to see not only the appalling loss of human life but also the loss of ancient temples and other cultural anchor-points.

Perhaps a child welfare worker, assigned to be a guest blogger on an environmental advocacy site, could reflect on the relationship between environmental degradation and children’s health.

It’s good to keep making connections among issues and organizations.

  2. Ruby, thanks for sharing your thoughts about the Nonprofit Blog Exchange. This first exchange will be a pilot version and see if it works out.

I am interested in hearing your thoughts about how it should be explained and any other thoughts you have the project.
